CEPI statement in response to G7 Leaders' call for a coordinated response to the Bundibugyo ebola outbreak

CEPI

CEPI welcomes the commitment from the G7 nations, under France’s 2026 G7 Presidency, to support the response to the fast-escalating Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, including the development of vaccines and other medical tools to help bring this crisis to an end.

The situation is one of grave concern. Only a month since the epidemic was first declared, this is already the third worst Ebola outbreak in history, and the doubling of confirmed cases in the past ten days is deeply alarming.

It is pivotal that the world stands in solidarity with the governments of the DRC, Uganda, Africa CDC, and those on the front lines of this outbreak to accelerate our response efforts. As part of this, CEPI, with our global health partners, are working around the clock to advance the development of promising Bundibugyo vaccine candidates as quickly as possible to add to the response, protect those most in need and save lives.

Our immediate work is supported by funding from the US and the European Commission, and we stand ready to work with the G7, the G20 and other countries in the coming weeks and months as we look for further funding to advance our response.

The G7 Leaders’ call for a response to Ebola is available to read on the Elysee website.
