AI projects
CEPI is supporting pioneering AI projects across the spectrum of our work, fuelling the scientific advances and time-savings needed to enable the world toward to execute the 100 Days Mission. Learn more about our AI investments.

Building a secure, dynamic AI knowledge base
CEPI is working with research institutions around the world to combine the latest AI advances with its vast repository of vaccine R&D data to create the world’s first Pandemic Preparedness Engine: an AI assistant for vaccine developers and researchers, serving as a virtual scientific collaborator capable of helping them identify and synthesise vast swathes of information, test hypotheses and advance vaccine development at unprecedented speed.
To train the Pandemic Preparedness Engine, it will need to learn from global vaccine research data. CEPI is working with global partners to derive these data from multiple sources including epidemiological networks, virus monitoring, research predicting the structure of virus proteins, and preclinical, manufacturing, and clinical studies.
CEPI is applying AI in key areas to advance vaccine development and generate the training data needed for the Pandemic Preparedness Engine. Find out more about the kind of AI projects CEPI is supporting.

Disease monitoring
Combing AI programmes and infectious disease knowledge to more accurately rank the viruses that have the potential to cause the next deadly pandemic.

Viral threat discovery
Anticipating variation in viruses and forecasting new variants to get a head start in the design of vaccines against emerging viral threats.

AI-assisted vaccine design
Reducing the vaccine-design time from months to days using powerful AI systems and aligning vaccine candidates with optimal rapid manufacturing platforms.

Vaccine efficacy & trial optimisation
Using AI to optimise clinical trial design, shorten trial timelines, and improve data-driven decision-making.
Predicting adverse event analysis
Predicting adverse events of special interest potentially related to vaccination by combing data from clinical approaches and cutting-edge gene technologies.

AI for digital regulatory submissions
Harnessing AI to reduce regulatory bottlenecks and standardising data packages for review by regulators.

AI for manufacturing optimisation
Applying AI to analyse process and efficiency data to help accelerate and maximise the production of vaccines.
