As of 14:00 [2:00 PM] today [Thu 1 Jun 2017], there have been a total of:
1615 laboratory-confirmed cases of MERS-CoV infection, including
665 deaths [reported case fatality rate 41.2 per cent],
942 recoveries, and
8 currently active cases

Since the last ProMED-mail update [Wed 24 May 2017], there have been a total of:
3 newly confirmed cases
0 newly reported fatalities, and

[Reported as a newly confirmed case on 21 May 2017 at which time he was noted to be in a stable condition. Classified as a primary case with high risk exposure history in the 14 days preceding onset of illness currently under investigation. - Mod.MPP]

2 - a 33 year old expat male, healthcare worker from Riyadh [Riyadh region] with no history of co-morbidities. [Reported as a newly confirmed case on 15 May 2017 at which time he was noted to be in a stable condition, having been identified as an asymptomatic contact of a confirmed MERS-CoV infected individual. Classified as a secondary healthcare acquired case in a healthcare worker. - Mod.MPP]

3 - a 57 year old expat male, healthcare worker from Bisha [Asīr region] with a history of pre-existing co-morbidities. [Reported as a newly confirmed case on 17 May 2017 at which time he was noted to be in a stable condition, having been identified as an asymptomatic contact of a confirmed MERS-CoV infected individual. [MERS-CoV infections continue to be diagnosed in Saudi Arabia. with a total of 1615 laboratory confirmed infections with MERS-CoV since reporting the 1st case in September 2012. These include 665 fatalities attributed to infection with the MERS-CoV with a reported case fatality rate of 41.2 per cent.

During the month of May 2017, there were a total of 17 newly confirmed infections with MERS-CoV, 7 fatalities and 15 recoveries reported on the Saudi MOH MERS-CoV website. Of these 17 newly confirmed infections, 6 were classified as due to nosocomial transmission, 1 in Bisha (`Asīr region) and 5 in Riyadh (Riyadh region), with 2 of these 6 occurring in patients (1 fatal) and 4 occurring in healthcare workers (all identified as asymptomatic contacts). Regions that reported newly confirmed infections in June 2017 included, Al Qaṣīm (2), Al Madinah (1), Ash Sharqīyah (1), `Asīr (4), Hail (1), Makkah (1) and Riyadh (7).
