As of 14:00 [2:00 pm] today [25 Jan 2017], there have been a total of:
1542 laboratory-confirmed cases of MERS-CoV infection, including
641 deaths [reported case fatality rate 41.6 per cent],
894 recoveries, and
8 currently active cases.

Since the last ProMED-mail update [23 Jan 2017], there have been a total of:
2 newly confirmed cases,
0 newly reported fatality, and
3 newly reported recoveries.

1- A 48-year-old Expat male, non-healthcare worker from Jeddah [Makkah region], currently in critical condition. Classified as a primary case with history of high risk exposures in the 14 days preceding onset of illness still under investigation.

2- A 41-year-old Saudi female, non-healthcare worker from Riyadh, currently in stable condition. Classified as a primary case history of high risk exposures in the 14 days preceding onset of illness still under investigation.

1- A 50-year-old Saudi male, non-healthcare worker from Jeddah [Makkah region] with a history of pre-existing co-morbidities [reported as a newly confirmed case on 10 Jan 2017 at which time he was noted to be in stable condition. Classified as a primary case with a history of direct contact with camels in the 14 days preceding onset of illness. - Mod.MPP]

2- A 61-year-old Saudi male, non-healthcare worker from Hufoof [Ash Sharqīyah (Eastern) region] with a history of pre-existing co-morbidities [reported as a newly confirmed case on 13 Jan 2017 at which time he was noted to be in stable condition. Classified as a primary case with a history of direct contact with camels in the 14 days preceding onset of illness. - Mod.MPP]

3- A 66-year-old Saudi male, non-healthcare worker from Najran with a history of pre-existing co-morbidities [reported as a newly confirmed case on 14 Jan 2017 at which time he was noted to be in stable condition. Classified as a primary case with a history of high risk exposures in the 14 days preceding onset of illness still under investigation. - Mod.MPP]

[Well, after the 6 day hiatus with no newly confirmed cases reported (15-20 Jan 2017), the past 5 days (21-25 Jan 2017) there has been 1 newly confirmed case reported each day. In the past 2 days since the last update, there have been 2 cases reported, one from Riyadh and one from Jeddah (in Makkah region). The other 3 cases reported in the past 5 days have included cases from Jubail (Ash Sharqīyah region), Al Qararah (Riyadh region) and Taif (Makkah region). All 5 of the newly confirmed cases were classified as primary cases, 2 with a history of direct contact with camels in the 14 days preceding onset of illness, the other 3 with high risk exposures still under investigation.
