Governance

CEPI is in its start-up phase.

During this, our activity is being coordinated by an Interim Secretariat. This is provided by the Norwegian government, with close support from the:

  • Government of India
  • Wellcome Trust
  • Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
  • World Economic Forum

Our Chief Executive Officer is Richard Hatchett.

The Interim Secretariat is in discussions with many potential government and philanthropic funders, industry partners and other key stakeholders such as regulators, emergency care providers and the World Health Organization.

CEPI is governed by an Interim Board made up of experts from founding partners, industry, governments and non-governmental organisations. It is chaired by Professor K VijayRaghavan, Secretary of the Indian Department of Biotechnology, with Professor Peter Piot, Director of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, as vice-chair.

The Board is advised on decisions such as prioritising pathogens and selecting industrial partners by an Interim Scientific Advisory Committee. This is chaired by Dr Mark Feinberg, CEO of the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative.

A Joint Coordination Group will coordinate the vaccine development efforts of CEPI partners and will link up with other organisations to ensure vaccines reach the populations who need them. The group will be chaired by Dr Margaret Hamburg, foreign secretary at the National Academy of Medicine and former FDA Commissioner.
